Summer Hockey Development

Co-ed Camps
Capitals Summer Development Camps
At SPCHA, our mission is to provide an environment where players can reach their full potential. Over the past year, we have renewed our focus on elevating the standard of our skater, goalie, and coaching development. In line with this commitment, we are proud to introduce a refreshed set of summer hockey camps for skaters and goalies.
A Powerhouse Collaboration for Skaters
We are continuing our valued partnership with Tom Vannelli’s ACE Hockey Camps and are introducing a new approach to drive the daily experience:
- Strategic Direction: Legendary coach Tom Vannelli (former STA, CDH, and SPCHA coach) continues to oversee the camp’s foundation and structure.
- On-Ice Innovation: We are thrilled that Tom has brought on Ray Christy to operate the day-to-day camp. A former St. Paul Capitals and MSHSL State Champion with STA as well as a D1 standout at Colorado College and University of St. Thomas, Ray brings a current, high-energy perspective to every drill.
- Comprehensive Planning: Ray is partnering directly with SPCHA Hockey Development Director and former NHLer Taylor Chorney to implement a curriculum that mirrors the best practices of elite-level hockey, both on and off the ice.
Exceptional Goalie Development for Netminders
Join three-time MSHSL State Champion, Frank Brimsek Award winner, and D1 standout David Zevnik for focused, goalie-specific training. This camp is designed to sharpen technique, improve reaction time, and build confidence in the crease.
David doesn’t just focus on making saves; he focuses on the right way to play the position. His coaching is perfect for our young athletes because:
- He makes it fun: David is great at teaching the basics to new goalies while still challenging our advanced players.
- Modern Skills: He teaches the same techniques used by the pros and top college athletes today.
- A Great Role Model: Having grown up playing right here in Minnesota, David shows our kids exactly where hard work and a great attitude can take them.
We look forward to seeing the growth and energy on the ice this summer and beyond!
