Meet Josie and Olivia

Meet Coach Josie Bothun

We are thrilled to have Josie Bothun leading our girls' goalie training! Josie is a phenomenal addition to our coaching staff, bringing a record-breaking collegiate career and a deep passion for the position to our association.

Why Coach Josie?

Josie is a proven winner who has competed and excelled at the highest levels of women’s hockey. Her resume speaks for itself:

  • A National Standout: Josie was named the 2020-21 USCHO.com National Rookie of the Year, making her the first player in Penn State history to win a national award.
  • Record-Breaking Performance: She holds the Penn State records for both career wins (60) and career shutouts (19), as well as the record for the longest shutout streak (over 263 minutes!).
  • Elite Accolades: A former CHA Goaltender of the Year and CHA Tournament MVP, Josie has consistently been recognized as one of the top netminders in the country.
  • All-American Scholar: In addition to her dominance on the ice at Penn State and Bemidji State, Josie was recognized as an AHCA/Krampade All-American Scholar for her dedication in the classroom.


What Your Goalie Will Learn

Josie brings a wealth of modern technical knowledge and a relatable coaching style that is perfect for our young athletes.

  • Technical Precision: Having played Division I hockey at both Penn State and Bemidji State, Josie teaches the high-level movements and positioning used by the best goalies in the world today.
  • Mental Toughness: Josie knows what it takes to perform under pressure, from winning conference titles to defeating top-5 ranked teams. She helps goalies develop the focus and "next shot" mentality needed to succeed.
  • A Local Role Model: A standout at Forest Lake Area High School (where she played for both the girls' and boys' varsity teams), Josie is a proud product of Minnesota hockey. She serves as a perfect example of how hard work, versatility, and academic excellence can open doors at the highest levels.


Meet Coach Olivia Schultz

We are excited to welcome Olivia Schultz as an assistant for our goalie camp! Olivia brings an incredible "workhorse" mentality and a history of elite-level shot-stopping to our coaching staff. Known for her resilience and ability to perform under heavy pressure, she is a fantastic resource for our developing goaltenders.

Why Coach Olivia?

Olivia was a standout performer in the WIAC, recognized for her durability and her ability to keep her team in every game through high-volume save performances:

  • Decorated Collegiate Career: She was named to the All-WIAC First Team in 2021 and is a two-time All-WIAC Honorable Mention selection (2020, 2022).
  • A Record-Breaking Workhorse: In the 2021-22 season, Olivia set a program record with 771 saves. She also holds the program record for most saves per game with an average of 34.90.
  • Game-Changing Performance: She holds the school record for single-game saves, stopping 57 shots in a single outing against UW-Eau Claire.
  • Academic Excellence: Olivia is currently a Master’s of Business Administration major and was a National Honor Society member, demonstrating her commitment to excellence both on and off the ice.

Olivia’s experience facing a high volume of elite competition makes her an expert in resilience and technical consistency.

  • Mental Toughness: Olivia teaches goalies how to stay focused and technically sound even when facing 40+ or 50+ shots in a game.
  • Technical Durability: With multiple career shutouts and a .927 save percentage in her senior season, she understands the specific technical details required to maintain a high level of play throughout an entire season.
  • Academic Leadership: As a four-year academic letter winner, Olivia serves as a role model for our athletes on how to balance high-level athletics with academic achievement.
